Seed Services

This programme is instrumental in the dissemination of new improved burley, flue-cured and NDDF tobacco varieties to farmers.

How We Can Help?

Seed is a very important input in tobacco production since it has a significant inherent influence on the yield and quality of the crop. ARET, therefore, has a strong programme for the production of certified seed that ensures that Malawi tobacco farmers have access to improved and tested varieties. This programme is instrumental in the dissemination of new improved burley, flue-cured and NDDF tobacco varieties to farmers. The seed is produced and processed using internationally approved methodologies and procedures. Certification is done using international standards through an internationally accredited seed services laboratory. The seed is sold at affordable prices. ARET produces adequate seed each season and stocks a carryover capacity for two years.

Expansion

Currently, plans are underway to expand the infrastructure and facilities for a Seed Laboratory for preliminary testing of long-term storage of seed.
